What is a Mixed Fraction?
A Mixed Fraction (or Mixed Number) combines a whole number and a fraction, like 1 ½. It is often easier to understand in real life (e.g., cooking recipes) than an Improper Fraction like 3/2.
Working on a carpentry project? You can copy your calculated measurements (e.g., 5 3/8") and paste them into the Scratchpad (bottom corner) to keep a running list of cuts.
How to Calculate Mixed Numbers
To perform math on mixed numbers, the standard method is to convert them into improper fractions first.
Multiply the Whole number by the Denominator, then add the Numerator.
Perform the addition/subtraction, then divide the result to get the Whole number back.
